A roll of 8mm film lets you film just 3 minutes and 20 seconds of footage. Nowadays, when anyone can easily take videos, what gets captured in this very limited amount of time, more than ever, sets a back story in itself. On the streests of Atami, what to capture, what will be reflected and what will remain? I have no doubt there will be moments when we will come into contact with cinema along the way.
Given there is not a single movie theatre in Atamai, Yamazaki has been trying to screen films in various locations since he moved there in 2020 while thinking about what it means to have movies in town. Past screenings include “Speak Low” directed by Ei Yamamoto), a film shot entirely on location in Atami, “Paterson” by Jim Jarmusch, “Atami Blues” by Donald Richey, and “VILLAGE ON THE VILLAGE” by Yukinori Kurokawa.
