Kent Watanabe
Resonating NestRavine
“Resonating NestRavine” is constructed within a valley carved by the lush hills of Atami City. Here, a vast spider web stretches out, catching the sweeping winds. This web symbolizes the cycle of life, hinting at the deep bond between Atami’s natural surroundings and its inhabitants. At the heart of this installation, a cocoon awaits rebirth, emanating light as dusk falls. The creation leverages a geometric design algorithm and drones, bringing to life an aerial structure that enhances the valley.
Born in Okayama Prefecture in 1995, postgraduated at Keio University. Watanabe constructs spider webs using drones. The threads begin to adopt multiple meanings by connecting objects and events within a specific location. At first glance, the numerous threads, which seem to be strung randomly, are structured by a geometric algorithm influenced by environmental conditions. Watanabe’s work seeks to spatialize a natural phenomenon, mirroring how an actual spider weaves a web — transforming a beautifully simple order into diverse manifestations.
