Meditation(Chasing butterflies)
Strolling inside Atami city, I started running after butterflies. I noticed how they would flutter a bit before stopping at one spot for a while, and just when you thought they had floated off, they’d return to the same spot again. Eventually, another butterfly would come into view, and their paths would get tangled. While I was completely absorbed by them, the sounds and sights around me blurred, and only the butterflies’ trails were highlighted. This sensation was just like meditation. I left the sensation at Nagisaura that is a shared atelier and hostel, a place where people would gather together and rest at peace.
Born 1996 in Kanagawa. Atami based artist Ito makes paintings based on scenes from his own life, such as what he sees during his everyday strolls. By incorporating everyday items such as letter writing paper, wax, tablecloths, and shopping bags as materials for his paintings, and by mixing his everyday life with his artwork, he ponders how people naturally live and what they are.
