Shin Asato

Title:

Figure and Ground

Description:

Setting up an art installation on figure and ground in a corner of an old building, built back in 1965.

Gestalt psychology explains the individual components one sees and the patterns and configurations behind it with the terms “”figure and ground””.
By looking around a space, we find old pieces of glass that could no longer be been, an awkward floor plan, and a time-stained wall. By locating and altering these elements, one transforms “”figure and ground”” into a work of art.

Connecting our time with the continuation of time that flows there.
