Three-dimensional dimensions - Bar Komado・1F
There used to be an apartment building on this site. However, it remains vacant today, because the current Japanese building code does not allow to raising new buildings here.
Based on its context, I came up with the idea of installing something like a “”half-building””, in the form of architectural drawings, that are necessary in the previous step of construction. The design referred to is the bar “”Komado”” in Chuo-cho. It is one of the “red-light district architectures” remaining in Atami, but this layout is also one that would not be allowed to build under the existing building code.
I create artworks that are deeply associated with the space where they are exhibited, both physically and conceptually, and that cannot be reconstructed in any other location, using elements that the space itself contains, such as lighting rails on the ceiling in a gallery, barber equipment and furniture left in a closed barber shop, and pillars and lights in a building.
Besides working on my own creations, I also organize gatherings to explore random and personal connections between people of all genres of “creative” backgrounds.
