Asako Ishizaki

Title:

CITY OF A/M/P

Description:

Atami’s landscape is striking, characterized by mountains that press close to the sea. With approximately half of its urban area consisting of sloped terrain, Atami has undergone extensive urban development to create flat land.
Through my work, I contemplate the changing scenery resulting from development cycles that involve reclaiming coastlines and carving into mountains, artificially moving earth and sand.
The title is derived from the “CITY OF ATAMI MASTER PLAN,” published in 1960.

Profile:

Born in Tochigi prefecture in 1996. Ishizaki completed her BA in sculpture at Musashino Art University in 2023. She works with sculpture, video and performance on the theme of expression risen from the reality of street life. Ishizaki’s works include City Angle (2021), based on the relationship between the hills of Shibuya and human body, and Tracing City (2022-23), which was inspired by skaters and graffiti artists in the city. Her work reconstructs the perspectives of others in the city through fieldwork in urban spaces.
