Ignasi Monreal
LLAR
LLAR is an installation by Ignasi Monreal that immerses the viewer in a room ablaze with painted fire. The title, meaning both “home” and “fire” in Catalan, captures the dual nature of fire as both a source of warmth and a force of destruction. The mural reflects on our complex relationship with flames—how it shapes our homes, our lives, and the world around us. As fire historian Stephen J. Pyne notes, “Fire cannot exist without the living world,”. Through the flames, the artist explores the idea of fire as a defining element of our existence, capable of both forging a sense of belonging and threatening to consume it.
