Reports have surfaced of humans inhabiting the waters near Atami. Details regarding their population, living areas, and cultural practices remain unknown. The sole piece of physical evidence discovered was a pair of shoes, presumably worn by these individuals, found in an abandoned building. The shoes, submerged at the bottom of a seawater-filled bathtub, appear to be crafted from materials that exist underwater. Questions: Why are the shoes submerged, and why in a derelict structure? As the enigma deepens, a growing number of experts conclude that the existence of an underwater civilization is merely a hoax, dismissing the notion entirely.
Born in 1996, Toda is a self-taught sneaker artist based in Tokyo. Toda utilizes his strong interest in the symbolism, physicality and design of sneakers as the subject matter for his work. By reinterpreting sneakers (their shape, function, material, creative techniques and how they are used) from his unique perspectives, Toda questions the meaning of the shoes as a social device. He advocates the artistic movement ‘HYPER SOLE’, which uses sneakers as a frame of expression.
