Title:

Whispering Thermal

Description:

Walking through Atami, I felt a sensation as if the geothermal energy was stirring up human desires. This video is a sketch revolving around several geothermal sites and the subtle power of desire lurking in those places. Inside the geothermal greenhouses, alligators wriggling with only their faces above the water’s surface appear like moving islands. It seems to be a reenactment of the geological drama from when this peninsula once met the main island of Honshu. The mist and steam drift and change shape, as if responding to the movements of the earth’s crust and human desires.
