Description:

We find ourselves in a world that is always changing. It’s normal for people to feel worried and uneasy when they face things they don’t know or can’t identify. When we see something hidden by strange plants, not knowing what’s inside, it can make us feel scared, just like how our society can make us feel. In Atami, wild plants often grow in empty places, sometimes covering whole buildings. Then, people try to take back these places, covering them again with their own hands. The lines between what is wild and what is controlled by people are always moving and changing.

Profile:

Artist. Hayasaki completed her BA in Fine Art from Chelsea College of Art and Design. Through the human gaze on the natural world, Hayasaki examines human beings themselves. She expresses the blurring of the boundaries between life and death, good and evil, and other seemingly opposed dualities using paper and three-dimensional objects.
