Title:

Breath of the Sea

Description:

The waves are like breathing. With a constant rhythm, they repeatedly come and go, evoking a sense of organic life in their movement. It’s as if the sea itself is a living creature, breathing. This work brings the sea to a corner of the city of Atami, allowing it to exist in the space as an organic entity that breathes, much like human life. The breathing of the sea, symbolized by the sound of the waves, is captured in real time and presented as a digital sea in the exhibition space within the city. The electronic sea depicted before your eyes is proof of the sea’s life activity, breathing in this very moment.

◆Special Program “META ATAMI -Story of Artificial Technoscape-”

“META ATAMI – Story of Artificial Technoscape” is an art program that explores, from a trans-artistic perspective, the relationship between technology and nature, reality and virtuality, past and future, and humans and non-humans. It juxtaposes technoscapes (technological landscapes) left in Atami with the elements of landscapes (natural landscapes) such as local resources, environment, and history.

The five invited artists will each depict the multi-layered aspects of Atami through various technological approaches, such as AI, VR/AR, and social media. Their reinterpretations will engage with the Izu Peninsula’s geological formation created a million years ago by the collision with the Philippine Sea Plate, the scattered Jomon-era ruins, Buddhist art, the activities of people in a tourist destination, and even the sound of waves that can be heard in Atami today.

We invite you to experience the vision of Atami, as it emerges from the intersection of technology and time.
