Bathtub Remains in Atami
Bathtub towering up in the grass, bathtub placed inside another bathtub, semi-circular bathtub in a former brothel, distorted trapezoidal bathtub, and so on. There are many bathtubs in Atami with strange environments and shapes. I have named these “Bathtub Remains in Atami” and investigate, discuss, record them, and compile it into a report. Furthermore, new “Remains” derived from the above will appear in Atami.
In Atami, where hot springs have been a part of life since long ago, and where even people can enjoy bathing in hot springs at home, the importance of bathtubs should be greater than that of any other places.
I create artworks that are deeply associated with the space where they are exhibited, both physically and conceptually, and that cannot be reconstructed in any other location.
Besides creating artworks, I also hold an international exchange meeting where various kinds of creative people gather, run a new type of residency project called “Artist in Homestay,” and work with local communities to solve their issues through my ideas and experiences as an artist.
