Sayaka Shimada
Shimada Sayaka is an artist who works with the theme of fireworks. Ever since she experienced fireworks up close, directly from below, she has been fascinated by their energy. She has participated in Japanese and international fireworks festivals, such as the Hanover International Fireworks Competition, as a fireworks director. In recent years, she has conducted cross-sectional research on the elements that make up fireworks, including their physicality, pyrotechnics, as well as cultural and historical background, from various angles. She continues to produce works in search of reconstructing them to bring new realizations and problems to light. In addition to fireworks, she also created works that use the self and phenomena as motifs, such as fire, lightning, radiation, plants, and minerals. Currently, she is enrolled as a doctoral student at Tokyo University of the Arts.
